Hello friends, guests, and fellow lovers of all things Owlpen,
It has been a very busy year here in the valley! We began 2017 by welcoming a film unit of over 150 people to our little corner of England, to spend three weeks filming a major part of a Hollywood movie in the house, the barn, the gardens and the woods. The film is due to come out in the UK on February 2nd, but until then we cannot say any more about it, unfortunately. We'll be able to send more information as soon as the film is on general release here in the UK.
With the filming over, we embarked on a marathon of 21 weddings taking place here, and we have loved welcoming new people from far and wide to Owlpen. The 15th century Cyder Barn has seen over 15 official wedding ceremonies taking place under its great cruck trusses, and the Great Hall in the manor house has been used for more intimate wedding ceremonies for up to 50 people. We look forward to welcoming even more guests to the estate for weddings in 2018.
Let's not forget the manor house itself. We spend our midweek time welcoming private tour groups to the house and gardens, and we always conduct the tours ourself, of course. Let us know if you'd like a private tour, and perhaps lunch in the barn or a cream tea to make the day complete!
While everything else has been going on, we have also been busy in the holiday cottages. Owlpen remains a favourite destination for travellers who like to bring their dogs with them too, and families always tell us how they love the peace of the valley, with so many walks away from the public footpaths and great excursions in the surrounding area, allowing for that all-important family bonding time away from the busy world beyond our wooded hillsides. When guests have not been around, we have been busy re-painting interiors, re-pointing exteriors, and scrutinising every detail to make sure all of our guests have a memorable and cosy stay here in the Cotswolds.
We hope to see many friendly faces here in 2018. Remember we offer great discounts to returning guests!
In the meantime I hope that you have a happy New Year, and that 2018 brings peace to everyone.
With very best wishes,
Nicholas and Karin Mander, and our ever-growing family, now numbered at 23 people (see photo below!)
