Wreath making workshop at Owlpen Manor

Sunday December 1st

This year we are excited to be hosting our next annual wreath-making workshop at Owlpen Manor.  It is an opportunity for people of all ages to spend an afternoon with shears, leaves, fronds, pine cones, winter fruit, and so many more beautiful things, and put together their own wreath to enrich the Christmas experience.

Our workshop takes place at Owlpen Manor, from 2.30 to 5.30pm, in the pole barn.  It is a large, bright space which is cosy in winter with its roaring fire.

The afternoon is curated by Eve Squire of Daisy Belle Floral Design.  As one of the region’s most talented florists, this part of her life experience is particularly treasured and we cannot wait to partner with her for this one-off event.

Owlpen is a wreath-maker’s paradise, says Eve.  “I can go out into the fields and the hedgerows to collect almost everything I need, which means that we can fashion locally-sourced products which have a such a low impact on the environment.  I am particularly excited about this event because Owlpen have allowed me to forage whatever I want from the estate before the session starts, so I get to spend a day outdoors, gathering and choosing from all of my favourite winter plants.  What can be better than that!”

Participants are invited to arrive from 2pm, ready for starting the session at 2.30.  You will be offered a welcome cup of tea or coffee and mince pies, and have a chance to explore the gardens of the manor house if you would like to.  You do not have to bring anything with you, but if you are able to bring an apron, garden shears and gloves, that would be great.  Sometimes it is better to bring your own!

The session starts at 2.30, and runs for three hours.  Participants will be shown how to make a wreath from scratch, using all of the little hints and tips that a pro like Eve has up her sleeve for when she is making them for her commercial clients.  You will be offered a selection of decorations, most of which come from the Owlpen estate itself, so that you can choose your own style of wreath which is perfectly suited to your own front door.

For Eve, it is the interaction between her and the participants that make the day so enjoyable.  “Making your own wreath is just the most perfect and wholesome way to ease into the festive period and is now a yearly staple for many previous attendees. I love how everyone uses the materials on offer differently and goes away with a completely bespoke wreath, unique to them, ready to adorn the doors of their home. The textures, scents and colours of the winter foliages and decorations are just divine to work with.”

The Owlpen staff will make sure you are well looked after, with tea, coffee, mince pies and biscuits on tap.  Not to mention the odd glass of fizz if you are that way inclined!

We aim to keep going until 5.30pm, when we we’ll do a group presentation and prize-giving ceremony.  No prizes for first place though!
