This is a charming Stuart garden building of about 1620, architecturally listed Grade II.
Encapsulating the romance of Owlpen, it has been imaginatively converted to provide a cosy, little rustic living space. The layout of the house means that it is best suited for four people, but it is possible to squeeze in six if at least two are children. Situated next to the Manor gardens, the diminutive Court House with its quirky period charm is a favourite with history buffs, aesthetes and lovers of architecture.
The Court House is set over three floors and has three bedrooms. The ground floor has a galley kitchen, bathroom and charming dining room with an original flagstone floor and large window with views onto the gardens of the manor house. A steep, winding spiral staircase leads to the first floor, which has a double bedroom and cosy living room, furnished with beautiful antiques and appliances such as Smart TV, DVD player, and telephone (wifi is fast and free). Go up the winding stairs again, and you’ll find two bedrooms in the attic, consisting of one twin room (both the beds are tucked up under the eaves so headroom is limited), and then another small double in an alcove, separated by a curtain. As above, although the cottage can sleep six in theory, we recommend no more than four in the space unless you are travelling with children.
Please be aware: The Court House is a very old building with uneven floors, steep and very narrow stairs, and access from the is road via a sloping gravel path. We do not recommend this cottage for those with limited mobility. However, the house has bags of character and charm, and is a favourite for people who truly want to experience an unspoilt piece of history in this charming Cotswold valley.
